I find it rather interesting that rather than allow a woman leave from her job to donate an organ for her dying mother, you fire her and hide behind the Family and Medical Leave Act. I certainly hope there was more motivation begin this decision than merely the capitalist mentality which permeates corporate America today.
Was this woman a bad employee? Was she stealing company property? If not then one employee gone, for one month, from one store will not drastically impact the bottom line for any coporation with more than 200 store fronts. I am rather disgusted that a company of your size and stature would make such a completely backwards decision. I am not alone in my thinking that your treatment of Nancy Bevilacqua is not only wrong, but immoral.
You say that you, "empathize with her situation" yet you fired her all the same. A woman who was doing one of the most selfless, honest, and decent things a human being can do for another one - and you pissed on it. How do you sleep at night knowing that this woman went to the hospital to donate her liver, and now she does not have a job to come back to after she gets back on her feet?
Donating an organ is no small task, it can cause serious damage to the internal pathways of your body. Regardless of the organ donated, recovery time can be anywhere from 1 week to a month and a half. This was not an easy decision for either of these women. The mortality rate for live donors of organs is 10%. That means that one out of every ten people who donates an organ to another person dies because of the process. Irregardless of whether or not the person donating is 100% healthy or not, some peoples bodies just can't adjust to the loss.
It sickens me to think that of your employees the one you fired that day was a woman who was risking her life to save her dying mother. To sacrifice her job to save her mothers life only makes her an even better person in my eyes. Your company would have been sentencing this woman's mother to death by not letting her have the time off to donate this organ. What right do you have to decide who lives, and who dies?
I will never shop in your stores, and I will encourage everyone I know not to shop with your company as well. How dare you think your merchandise sales figures are more important than the life of a human being. You are a callous, and heartless bastard. I hope you have a really nice bed, otherwise it should be even harder for you to sleep at night.
Go suck a dick, you fucking butt pirates.
Sincerely,
Frostbyter
