That's subject to opinion. I thought he was quite gay. Just a more realistic depiction of homosexuality. The only problem is that it's still not very realistic at all.
I don't know why everyone doesn't give up and admit that there is no right way to portray a gay person anymore than than there is a right way to portray a left-handed person.
