...the best thing you can do to avoid the 'newbie' tag is to post lots and not disappear after one week - as someone else pointed out above.
Be nice to people and generally they'll be nice back. Possible exceptions are grundle, who'll cyberstalk you, X- MAN, who'll tell you you're obsessed with sex and Neptune_Salad, who'll tell you that you'll die screaming. Oh and Conqueror will try to destroy you with his mental powers and army of immortal undead robots. He's harmless, like most village idiots.
And isn't that Slothrop a nice chap? :)
