I am sure that the story behind little miss muffet had something to do with a little girl whose father was a doctor or something like that. He used to make her eat crushed spiders as a cure for...I think colds...which in the bad old days was common practice in some parts of the world. Of course it was unpalateable, that's why she was frightened by the spider. Can you get high on crushed spiders? btw I don't remember where I heard that story, but it MUST be true.
