But I have no problem defending the Oscar noms of Life is Beautiful and Elizabeth over Truman Show. I still think the best of Jim Carrey is yet to come (ala Robin Williams), but I DON'T think it will be the upcoming bio of Andy Kaufman - "The Man in the Moon" I'm one of the few people who doesn't consider Kaufman to be a genious. His work on Taxi was great and very funny, but I swear he just got perpetually odder and more bizarro as time went on. That whole wrestling thing is still lost on me. I still stand by my orginal statement, that Truman Show is extremely overrated. Life is Beautiful and Elizabeth were not overrated at all (IMHO)

I told you before, the best thing about Truman was Ed Harris, and I'm sincerely happy that he got a Best Supporting nom, (but I'm rooting for Billy Bob Thornton for his subtle, yet brilliant performance in A Simple Plan). Unfortunately for me, I believe that that many of the stuffier, more conservative members of the Academy are unable to grasp BB's tremendous acting talents as of yet, so he may not have a chance in hell of winning. (But I can hope) And you couldn't be more right that he deserved the Oscar for his role as Carl (mmmmm hmmmmmmmmmm) in Slingblade over Geoffrey Rush in Shine.

But we could both go on forever about who has won Oscars and who SHOULD have won....couldn't we? (Another case in point....Sean Penn should have easily taken the Oscar for his role as Matthew Poncelet in Dead Man Walking, instead of Nicholas Cage's unredeemable alcoholic in Leaving Las Vegas - Cage was great, but Sean Penn's performance was sheer perfection....)

Don't get me started on THE ENGLISH PATIENT. AGGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHH Interesting, how that wretched movie won the Best Picture Oscar, but neither lead Actor or Actress won. I'm with Elaine Benes on this flick.....DIE ALREADY....DIE!!!

- we'll have to compare our Oscar predictions soon
