02/23/1999: You misunderstood me

Posted By: CreepFreakLoser

I didn't say "Life Is Beautiful" and "Elizabeth" (and for that matter "The Thin Red Line") were overrated. (Obviously "Saving Private Ryan" and "Shakespeare in Love" are not, but I've heard few besides Parca argue to that effect.)

Actually, "Life," "Line," "SPR" and "Shakespeare" make up 4 of my top 7 of 98, along with "Your Friends & Neighbors," "The Truman Show," and "There's Something About Mary" (don't ask). ("Elizabeth" was a well made film, but I wouldn't call it entertaining-- in fact, it seemed basically like a fairly realistic historical documentary to me-- but a documentary is NOT a feature film. That's why it tumbled into my second 10.)

Furthermore, my top 6 predictions for BP nominees were (in order of likelyhood) "SPR," "Shakespeare," "Elizabeth," "Truman," "Thin Red Line," and "Life is Beautiful." I have the feeling I was closer than anyone else, because few people seriously thought "Line" and especially "Elizabeth" had a chance.

No, actually what I meant toward you was...
