09/03/02: approximate cost of a tobacco addiction; life time, California:

Posted By: mendo

One pack per day, current local Northern California prices (set to go up 50¢ a pack in January):

$5.36 + Tax = $5.75 per pack x 7 days a week = $40.25 per week = 52 weeks a year = $2093 a year x how ever many years you live your stinky, smokey, addicted life, not only killing yourself but those around you w/ second hand smoke...

say you start smoking at age 15, and live 'til 65 when you die a slow tortured death from lung cancer, which was the exact scenario that took my Dad's life:

$2093 tobacco cost per year x 50 years of tobacco addiction = $104,650... per tobacco addict... multiply that times however many kids have gotte addicted for life... 50,000,000?!?!?!? Multiply that out... my little calculator won't go that high...

Can you see now why the tobacco companies whore themselves out so bad to get kids addicted?!?!?!? And the government really doesn't do squat to stop them (the tobacco companies, paying BILLIONS and BILLIONS in taxes)???
