A book I read over the weekend mentioned the connection between brain development and habit formation:
"At about age fifteen all parts of the brain other than the prefrontals myelinate, or stabilize, making permanent the learning, imprints, and developments gained to that point. This includes all of our bad habits, as the tobacco companies realized years ago when this research was published, and they immediately capitalized on it, encouraging youngsters to smoke."
