Now Bush may allow SOME pilots to have guns. This is, and was from the start, the stupidest idea since 9/11.
Simple answer: Lock the cockpit with a completely impassable door.
Pilot and crew, no matter what goes on in the plane, concentrate on flying and landing the plane ASAP in emergency. Hijackers don't get to the cockpit under any cirumstance, and know they can't before they board.
Having some 150 lb pilot who never took a human life before come out firing will only get innocents killed, his cockpit taken over, and then possibly targets on the ground.
These guys should land the plane, and land the plane only. They aren't qualified to be crack-shots and killers. No matter what allah tells the terrorists to do, they know then that unless they have major explosives on board, their chances of killing more innocents are better at the local mall. Plus, even with explosives, lack access to the cockpit at least assures them that they won't be flying into any buildings.
