11/20/97: Eamon, I second that emotion...

Jeez, Louise. Figgis has been making very interesting (visually and conceptually) films for years. MIKE'S MURDER was the first, and in many ways, the most like a true independent film, of all.

LEAVING LAS VEGAS, like cyanide? I think not. I know I'm not the only one who's posted praise for this movie - even had a fairly heated exchange with Kollege over it. I won't belabor the point. It's a classic.

As for ONE NIGHT STAND, I'm approaching it with the attitude that Figgis has made a pretty fluffy romance for the 90's starring two of the most watchable players out there. Wesley rocks. And so does Nasty Kinki. Robert Downey Jr. may be a hopeless junkie but he can act about 100 times better than most of his contemporaries, and I look forward to seeing him play a gay man whose best friend is both straight and black.

Bottom line: A "bad" Mike Figgis film is always better than a "good" one directed by the usual formula-driven Hollywood shitheads. I'll be seeing ONE NIGHT STAND this weekend...

So there, Mr. Cranky!
