The stuff in those pictures is horrible.
However, today, right now, in the year 2000, the vast majority of white people in the U.S. would also say that those things were terrible. So the problem of racism is not as bad now as it was in the past. Today, most white people would be outraged by those pictures.
I don't understand why so many people in this thread are acting surprised at those pictures. Is this the first time that you have come accross this kind of stuff?
What's in those pictures is by no means unique to the U.S. This kind of thing has happened in numerous societies and cultures, for thousands of years, all throughout history.
In fact, it because of the U.S. and other Western countries, that, after happening for thousands of years, these kinds of things have been on the decline. For thousands of years, these kinds of horrible atrocities were commonplace all over the world. Then, along came the U.S., England, France, and a few other countries, where the political focus was placed on the rights of the individual. These countries ackowledged that these kinds of killings were wrong. Yes, at first, these rights and freedoms didn't apply to black people, but, over time, people came to realize that these lynchings were incompatiable with the ideas of the rights of the individual that was common in Western thought, and so these lynchings have nearly come to an end. Indeed, how often have such lynchings happened in the U.S. in the past 10 years, and what kind of public reaction did they receive?
Blacks who live in the U.S. today are far better off than blacks who live in modern day, present Africa. In the past decade, there have been quite a few mass genocides and mass killings going on in several African countries, and almost always, the killers and victims are all black. Immigration patterns prove that blacks are better off in the U.S. than in Africa. I know several black people who were born in Africa who chose to move to the U.S., but I don't know any blacks who were born in the U.S. who chose to move to Africa.
Today, the biggest threats to blacks in the U.S. are things that have nothing to do with white racism. Today, the biggest threats to blacks in the U.S. are black on black crime, the war on drugs, welfare depenency, and an illegitimacy rate of 70%. And you can't blame any of these problems on white racism, because all of these problems were much smaller 75 years ago, even though white racism was much worse then.
