Of course those photos are intrinsically horrifying. A reaction of revulsion is a given. But just because someone can find humor in any subject doesn't mean they are incapable of compassion. I joke about the Holocaust all the time, but if I ever came face to face with one of those Nazi bastards, I'd rip his heart out with my bare hands and pound his face into the dirt with my heel.
Also, I think there is a difference between someone who is taking part in lynchings and joking about it than someone who jokes with no involvement. If one IS involved and laughs, it just goes to show how sick and devoid of respect for life that person is. However, if someone jokes about lynching (or any other unspeakable crime) who IS NOT involved may be using humor as a means to understand or to move on. I'M horrified by the caption "Oops, wrong nigger" for that reason. But if, for example, Techno said it, it wouldn't bother me.
And by the way... I don't have a "crew," llama. All the people I'm tight with don't come here anymore.
