..the majority of the movie was done in semi-darkness, and most of the parts in Ape City, there, had a definite Gothic feel..
That Ape City place that the humans are taken too sure harkened back to that gnarled tree in "Sleepy Hollow"
The armour that the Apes wore definitely had a Burton/goth feel to it (especially that Goofy Helmet that Tim Roth wore)
You had your blond heroine (and he didn't even need a wig for Ms. Warren!)
And i think that there was definitely a breath of Burton-Bizarro breathed into the way that the actors went about their monkey business.. (During the filming of Roth's hissy fit, i can picture Burton, with his wily hair, leaping around and screaming, showing Roth exactly the sort of thing he wanted)
