how incredibly addictive tobacco is. So addictive in fact that:
A) The gov't "says" it keeps taxes high to get people to stop smoking, because it becomes cost-prohibitive.
B) The gov't knows point A) is is utter nonsense, because if tobacco is as addictive as is claimed, cost would never be a factor to feeding the addiction.
C) If indeed tobacco is that addictive, and the smoker is an addict, then any tax paid by the smoker is basic extortion or exploitation of the addiction.
D) If, however, smoking is what used to be called "habit forming", then all talk of addiction becomes moot, because it then becomes a question of behavior modification and willpower. Therefore, taxation is justified as discouraging a vice.
E) If smoking is merely a vice, then any and all lawsuits should be disallowed due to freedom of choice as to whether or not someone smokes.
Am I missing something?
D.B.
