Forget Kenneth Branagh and, for God's sake, forget high school. Take in Roman Polanski's version of Macbeth or anybody but Lawrence Olivier's version of King Lear and you find begin to appreciate the darling Bard a little more. The trick is to remove your negative associations and let the story speak for itself. About half of the collogquial expressions we Americans use and say, "I wonder where that comes from," come from the text of King Lear. Better yet, buy yourself a copy of his works and just read them. It's beats the hell out of paying eight dollars for a ninety-minute Branagh promotion.
