Since 1995, the House Committee on Ways and Means, like every other House committee and the other adjunct offices of the House and the Senate, has been under the control of the Republican party, which has gutted virtually all the independent and nonpartisan sources of government information and statistics under its control. For example, they fired the nonpartisan House Historian and then shut down the House Historical Office.
It would be a lot more believable of the statistics in question came from STATISTICAL ABSTRACT OF THE UNITED STATES or the Congressional Research Service of the Library of Congress.
