Actually, I'm more of a typically cynical Crankylander, but I can only take your subject line as a compliment.
Whatever your perceived value of CLM's opinion on anything, it has little to do with whether or not he deserves to be scorned. He seems basically decent, and I can't even recall him referring to anybody else here in terms similar to 'disingenuous lying fuckwit' (it's crankyland, so you get a pass). Your second paragraph just tells me your basic dislike of the guy is preventing you from analyzing him rationally. Most of the odd characters I've met, social outcasts, nerds, whatever you want to call them (us, actually), have turned out to be fairly normal people once I've gotten to know them better. Treat them like real people, and they generally act like real people. It's silly to write somebody off just because of a few minor personality quirks.
My viewpoint is generally unreconcilable with Grundle's, and I can only roll my eyes and curse at some of his posts. Often though, he'll make an interesting point you wouldn't be likely to hear from someone who wasn't a stark raving singleminded market fundamentalist.
We're all pathetic geeks here anyway.
