The movie might be "Hitler - My Part in his Downfall", written by and starring Spike Whatisname of the influential British comedy troupe the Goons.

Or it might be one of the Carry On movies (which, in the early sixties, were actually quite funny).

Yes, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels is great because it shows you exactly and truthfully what goes into good conning -- and the reactions of the people who are being conned.

Finally, the Sherlock-Holmes-As-A-Dimwit film is a minor classic, very well done in all respects. Thank you for reminding me of it.
