The Marx Brothers? We occasionally have a lost Saturday at my house, watching A Night at the Opera, A Day at the Races, Animal Crackers, Duck Soup, etc., back-to-back. Neither I, Mrs. Pipps, or the kids ever get tired of them.
It's also hard to beat Cary Grant for comedy. His Girl Friday, Bringing Up Baby, Mr. Blandings Builds His Dream House, The Bachelor and the Bobby-Soxer, and my personal favorite Arsenic and Old Lace are all enough to make you forget that Technicolor was ever invented.
Finally, whenever Mrs. Pipps or I get sick enough to stay in for a couple of days, nothing passes the time better or fails to make us feel better than William Powell. All seven of the Thin Man movies plus The Kennel Murder Case, with Powell as Philo Vance, My Man Godfrey, and finally Powell as the ship's doctor in Mister Rogers. William Powell was definitely a national treasure.
I understand a desire to stay current or even to just watch movies in color, but if you ever tire of the vapidity of today's comedies, give a few of these a try. I promise you won't be disappointed.
Best regards, Wallee
