I believe the widow Geisel is the one in charge of his estate. I read that Hollywood took a long time to persuade her to allow the Grinch movie, and she was, I guess, satisfied with the result, so she let them do Cat In the Hat. After that crapfest she said there would be no more live-action remakes of his work. In my opinion, like it or not, live action itself isn't the problem, it's the quality of the writing. I don't really like the live action, I'd prefer they'd do traditional animation, I don't think live action, or especially CGI, captures the Seuss "look" as well as traditional animation can. But live action or CGI Seuss stories COULD work if they didn't fill them with "Ow! My Balls!" jokes. I think kids get the rawest deal from all this dumbing down. They not only get underestimated by writers, they become worthy of the underestimating after the highest form of comedy they have to look up to from their parents' favorite movies (Scary Movie, Meet the Spartans, any Will Ferrel movie) is no more intelligent than what they're given. Taking already-classic, intelligent stories for kids and turning them into "Ow! My Balls!" is probably the lowest of the low.
