(I'm only a little bit Indian, though -- my great- grandmother was full-blooded Iroquois.)
I don't think many people truly understand opiate addiction. I don't either, but I know it's not as simple as "stop doing it 'cause it's bad for yr health." (If only it were that easy, right?!) Anyway, I thought you might find things in the Burroughs "deposition" that you could relate to. I think it sometimes helps to hear experiences that mirror your own.
Anyway...don't lose faith...
