Lots of soap opera stars have gone on to be nominated for Oscars. I just wish I could think of a single example right now!
Watts has a much bigger issue: the fact that no one knew she existed prior to this year. As Meryl Streep proves time and time again, being in the Academy's good graces is everything. That's most of reason Watts won't even be nominated, much less win.
