Wow, you and I are polar opposites re: The Office.
I cannot tell you how hard I've been laughing at The Office. I barely watch any episodic TV anymore (save for 24 and House, MD), especially not sitcoms.
The absence of a laugh track makes everything that is said all the more deadpan. Yeah, some bits aren't as funny as others, but Steve Carell's complete idiocy as a boss is priceless, especially because his staff doesn't find him remotely funny. I liked the British show a lot also, although I didn't watch it as frequently as I would have liked. Ricky Gervais has been writing and producing for the American version, and I gotta say, I'm still cracking up 4 episodes later.
Having said that, I have a few friends who don't find it nearly as amusing as I do, but they're Yankees fans too, so that explains a lot.
