He does his thing, and I find it funny, but I think "School of Rock" will be his commercial peak (although, apparently there's a "Tenacious D" film in the works). I think his schtick will tire soon, and he will soon lost his box office glow.
The real key, though is that Linklater has proven himself to be a director for all seasons. I think he saw what failed in "Newtown Boys" & has realized how to make films that people connect with. "Waking Life" & "Tape" both did better than what was expected for what they were. This film has now exploded. I expect the "Before Sunrise" sequel to at least double what the original made.
The thing I keep seeing about "School of Rock" in reviews is that it has "heart." This is what Soderbergh lost in his commercial filmmaking. i don't see Linklater doing the same.
