There's a new book coming out in September. It's called "The Skeptical Environmentalist" and it was written by a guy named Bjorn Lomborg. He's not a libertarian or a conservative. In fact, he's a liberal and a former member of Greenpeace. But he objects to the panic and hysteria that makes up most of the the environmental movement.
He explains that the vast majority of environmentalsits' predicitons of doom and gloom have been wrong. He says in the book, "Mankind's lot has improved in terms of practically every measurable indicator."
Some of the statistics that he gives are:
* In the United States since 1976, ambient levels of sulfur dioxide are down 65 percent; nitrogen oxides are down 37 percent; ozone is down 27 percent; carbon monoxide, down 67 percent.
* Forest area in the United
States has increased by more than
10 million acres since 1987.
* Fish can thrive
and people can swim in rivers
like the Hudson and the Cuyahoga, which
wasn't true 30 years ago.
The radical environmenalists are scared that people might read this book and find out the actual truth about the environment. The following is a quote that appeared in Canada's National Post last month:
"A
warning has already appeared in
the English press that ["The Skeptical
Environmentalist'] could be the
most dangerous tool in a backlash against the
green agenda, especially in light
of Mr. Lomborg's reputation as a left-wing
environmentalist."
