07/19/01: grundle, I am confused by something you wrote.

You wrote about convenor, "There is only one reason why you would advocate such action: You work for lawyers. Estate planning puts lots and lots of money into lawyers' pockets. That is the only reason why you would advocate the idea of super duper rich people using loopholes to avoide paying taxes. You are a corporate whore for the rich, greedy, money grubbing lawyer industry."

But I don't understand. Lawyers are ardent supporters of capitalism. In fact, most lawyers who do trusts and estates work are either Republicans or libertarians. They support their clients' attempts to evade death taxes and income taxes and all sorts of other taxes. And they often vote for rightwing Republicans and give money to those Republicans because those Republicans promise to lessen the tax burdens on the productive part of American society. And many of them are libertarians, too; they wear Adam Smith neckties and belong to such groups as the Cato Institute.

Why are you calling lawyers names when so many of them agree with the views you serve up here?
