Malkovich Scribe Set for 'Nature' By Cynthia Loggia
HOLLYWOOD (Variety) - Scribe Charlie Kaufman, who took audiences inside the brain of John Malkovich, has come up with another offbeat excursion into ``Human Nature.''
The dark comedy, which stars Patricia Arquette, Paul Giamatti and Miranda Otto, will start shooting in May with music video director Michel Gondry at the helm.
The action revolves around a woman (Arquette) plagued by a hormonal abnormality that has left her covered with body hair; a scientist (Giamatti) obsessed with saving the world by teaching table manners to mice; and his assistant (Otto). All three have designs on a young man raised in the wild as an ape (Rhys Ifans, the masturbating Welshman in ``Notting Hill'').
``The characters in 'Human Nature' may seem a bit extreme,'' Gondry says, ``but each of these extraordinary actors, when confronted with tough and emotional situations, were able to capture the soul and the truth of the comedic elements far beyond our expectations.''
Arquette was last in theaters with ``Bringing Out the Dead'' and Giamatti with ``Cradle Will Rock.'' Otto stars in Robert Zemeckis' upcoming ``What Lies Beneath.'' Kaufman was just nominated for a Writers Guild Award for his ``Being John Malkovich'' screenplay.
