05/07/98: Foxy seems reluctant to reveal the truth -

- so I see that I'll have to say something about my friend's appearance. No, Lord Thurlow, I assure you that I am in no need of protection from him - don't threaten Mr. Foxy with your walking stick, it might make him cross. Yes, as you can see, he possesses rather formidable teeth. And Mr. Pitt, if you would be so good as to put down that stool - thank you.

Now. Surely you are both rational and enlightened men living in a century free of superstition and unfounded fears. You both know something of science, I think, and of recent discoveries that hint at a very early history that may even have preceded humanity.

Please don't interrupt, Lord Thurlow - yes, I know that Genesis made no mention of intimidating creatures such as my friend. However, you know your Shakespeare as well - there are more things in heaven and earth, if you'll recall. Besides, if I might be so bold as to say it, you're hardly the person best suited to quoting Scripture.

In fact, to speak of those who can quote the sages, perhaps a demonstration from my friend - no, he is not a pet - will convince you that he is an intelligent being who deserves the same treatment you would render any mortal capable of reasoning.
