08/05/97: Definately Oscar-caliber

If not for Best Picture, then for Cinematography. The fog scene I especially loved. The story of the Silkie was beautiful ("poetic" 's more the word) , and I thought the soundtrack fit the storyline well, but I didn't like the ending. Myths and legends are best heard when they're shrouded in mystery, hovering between reality and make-believe. When they become real, they lose a lot of that mystique. Another thing that bothered me was the thick Irish brogues. I know that they make the movie authentic, but they make the dialogue hard to understand. All in all, a great and disappointingly ignored movie. :)
