Yeah, you're being unfair. Just cuz Leigh has a middle class background doesn't mean he couldn't be a keen observer of the lower -- or upper -- classes and might have something to say in a film about them. As for middle-class arthouses where his films tend to play, I'm sure nothing would please Leigh more if they played at working-class locales. But if you look at the people who tend to frequent these kinds of films, they tend to be middle class (at least) sophistos. And it might be as close as they get to seeing a glimpse of how "the other half" lives. Maybe seeing "Secrets and Lies" encourages empathy or sympathy for them, rather than ridicule.
