this reminds me of the documentarys I often see in sociology classes,always an "issue" is explored with the subject(s) of the film from the poor or working classes,then once over us students most of us middle class form into groups to discuss the film. I recall ,with annoyance,on one of these occasions a classmate criticising a welfare recipient for smoking cigarettes. Anyway I think its o.k as falong as it is sensitive and honest and not exploitative. As far as "laughing at the proles" there is no better example I can think of than Ricki Lake and other such crap I wouldn't put Mike leigh in this category.
