Mr. Cranky obviously has the attention span of nutria. "Secrets and Lies" was by far the best film I have seen all year. It represents the apex in his career and the culmination of work that builds upon the great moments he was able to create in "High Hopes," and "Life is Sweet." I am an American born and bred and I will admit that some of his films can be a bit long, but the subtleties of his characters and the way in which they develop is brilliant. No other filmaker deserves the academy award for best director this year or best film. Mike Leigh rocks the house.
