In the end movies are always a matter of personal taste, aren't they? But what I don't understand is that someone can appreciate movies like "Lone Star", "Big Night", and no doubt "Fargo", and not like a unique production like "Secrets and Lies". I agree that movies like "Jerry Maguire", another stereotype loser turns winner theme, hasn't deserved Oscar honors, and there are and have been many others out there undeservedly so. Is it maybe that this is a British production? When I saw the movie I noticed that, unfortunately, most of the (obviously American) viewers (me being German with a certain weakness for anything British) were not too familiar with the (throughout hilarious) jargon in the film or had difficulties understanding that particular accent. I myself sometimes detect a certain ignorance for European culture in the American society in general which definitely makes it difficult to enjoy a movie like "Secrets and Lies" or other exports from across the pond.
