There is simply no way to prove that point. You have no idea how a snubbed team that loses early in the NCAA tournament would have performed in the NIT. The same principle works in reverse. UTEP almost beat MD today, but if they would have been relegated to the NIT, they just as easily could have lost by a lot in the 1st round, especially if they were on the road. I remember a few years ago where Wake Forest was left out of the NCAAs, but they went on to win the NIT. As it turned out, they had a 3-1 record against NCAA final 4 teams that year.
Here's the thing. Lesser teams that are in the NIT are happy just to be there and play hard. Snubbed teams often don't play as hard.
