I went to see this movie (or should I say snow job) because I wanted to see how much of the truth about Selena's life found it's way into it. Not much. Her overbearing father forced her to conjure up the hotsy totsy image she portrayed because it sold tickets at all the cock fights and pig roasts where Selena got her start. He also forced her to marry extremely young because he caught her having sex. Later, when her star rose and she wanted to take some control of her career, he resisted relinquishing any. That's how poor Selena ended up turning for friendship and advice to the nutcase who killed. Also, she was about to leave her husband for an older man she had a long "friendship" with and was at war with her family about it because it might taint her professional image. Selena was a talented young singer who might have found greatness if she were surrounded by artistic musicians and managers instead of a Jackson-esque entourage of hangers onto the meal ticket. I wish she had to chance to prove it.
