How does anyone know how many .50 caliber rifles the Taliban or Bin Laden have? That was the point of my original post: The unrestricted sale of those weapons means he could have 25, or 100 or 1,000. I'm not sure what "the known number" is. Do you have information on that?
A complicating factor is the very rugged terrain in the western foothills of the Himalaya mountains. Terrain that can be negotiated mostly by foot only, at high elevation. Sucking wind in a box canyon with snipers above you using rifles that can throw a bullet more than a mile is not my idea of a secure position.
