Pretty much was Life Changes. More to the point, commuting and web browsing changes.
For most of the last 7 or so years, I've been making a 1 1/2 hr. to 2-hr. (one way) commute. First couple of years, I was at a place where I could get by with snagging a look- see at the ol' Crankyland while there, but then I got caught up in a cutback when a customer responsible for 15% of the company's sales decided not to sell my company's wares anymore.
So, I ended up working on this hideously old (it could have voted, it was so old - and if it had lived in RI, it probably did!) and undocumented system that was bossed by a freakin' jerk. Oh, he was technically sound (though not structurally sound, programming-wise). But he had the managerial skills of a kumquat (and I apologize to all the fine kumquats out there). For example - he gives me a project, says use Field X of File Y as a flag for sort out the data by group for a report. I goes and does it, then he reams me out in front of the rest of the IT department for using Field X of File Y to do it! ARRRRRGGGHHHHH!
This was a period when TheMissus was in a particularly bad period physically, so there was a lot of Get up at 4am - go to work - work 9 hrs (with lunch hr.) - drive home (maybe stop off to do grocery shopping) - get home - cook supper - (maybe do some laundry) - make sure TheMissus got meds 'n' fed, maybe played on the computer for a while, then stagger to bed to do it all over again. Hoo-boy, Funzorama!
Well, they let me go after almost 2 yrs. and, after a tense 7 months of no work, I got a job down in Fall River (first, as a consultant, then later, took me on full time). But that was an 1hr. 45min. one-way. So, with the interest rates likely to climb and the feeling that I'd probably get killed if I kept up that commute, me 'n' TheMissus bought a place down in Lizzie Borden-ville. And I have a 10-15 minute commute now. Depending on traffic.
Plus, I've been wading through a lot of blogs, mostly political ones. But while I enjoy most of them, I've kinda missed coming here, so I thought I'd drop on back. And there was this caption contest, and I just couldn't resist....
