Coaster, A) Giant corporations can be just as liberal as anyone else, often are. The fact the America's media is so incredibly slanted to the left should be proof enough of that.
B) What would you rather, the State control the media? The answer must be yes because there is no other option. Can you think of one decent state news orginization around the world? The one in Russia, or China? No, state news is simply propoganda, period. America's and the free worlds media tends to be very leftist to be sure, but if you can't see the amazing wealth of options, viewpoints, and incredibly fast information we have access to through a capitalist media system, then you are dumb. Turn on your cable TV, the internet, you have ridiculous amounts of information. Hell the capatalist media typically is far better than state warning systems at getting news out. Stossel pointed out how for all these state warning systems, we had more information minutes after the attack through the media than Rudy Guliani did. This point was driven home as they interviewed him during the event, he basically knew what we did, nothing more.
