12/04/96: Mr. Cranky must be on Valium; It's GREAT

Posted By: Jade

I don't know which movie Mr. Cranky saw, but the movie I saw featuring 4 absolutely wonderful actresses who just happen to be black, is one of the best movies I've seen this year. The story and the characters rang true scene after scene. The bank robberies could have been taken from a daily newspaper. (Have you seen some of those idiots who manage to rob banks these days and get away?) This movie also featured the most realistic protrayal of lesbianism in the black community to date. Queen Latifah's portrayal of Cleo was unstinchingly honest and brave (boy the tongues are really wagging and speculating. Jada's portrayal of Stoney was her best "non-acting" acting I've ever seen. Viveca as Frankie has finally gotten a role equal to her skill, and newcomer Kimberly Elise will be around for a long time. These women have created a wonderful, exciting and sad movie that thrilled not only me, but each of the three audiences I saw it with. Mr. Cranky, take your head out of your ASS, open your eyes, and stop being so critically.
