What always stumped me was how mr. Heirdahl (sp?) came up with his theory in the first place..
I mean, you've got a culture spread throughout the pacific islands where people light out in canoes when one island gets over populated, and the navigational skills are clearly amazing.... these people managed to find the easter islands, which are roughly 1,500 miles from ANYWHERE... and the only rule of thumb they have is "Go east, that's the direction of heavan (not to mention everyone else is to the west)"...
so when Thor finds some correltation between some of the cultures of south america (east) and some of the teeny pacific island groups (west) what does he assume? Does he assume that Pacific islanders, already known to have set up in the Pacific northwest in some cases, well versed in ocean voyage, and with a penchant for heading east, and with the ability to locate land masses, managed to eventually find an entire friggin continent? No, He assumes that the South Americans in leak-prone near-shore craft managed to go WEST and find one or two tiny little fly speck islands!
sheesh. oh, and by the way, DUH.
