He promised freedom to the slaves who helped him fight the British in Louisiana, when the war was over, he said something like "if I borrowed a man's horse, he'd expect me to return it". Back into slavery they went. Yeah, major fucking asshole.
Were all master-slave relationship really rape? Obviously a lot were. I mean...the blacks who claim kin to Jefferson don't say "Jefferson raped my great-great-great- great-grandma!"
