Bickle, Get off your damn high horse. Actually the "correct" term is soft drink but Merriam Webster lists soda pop as: (noun) Date of origin: 1863 definition: a beverage consisting of soda water, flavoring, and a sweet syrup.
So you're "ill-bred" cousins are correct as well. Now go get a pop and calm down!
