02/04/1999: The problem with Hollywood...

Posted By: Alan_Smithee

First a disclaimer: I have not seen this movie; however, I have read the reviews and feel that I have a pretty good understanding of the plot.

The problem with Hollywood is that with few exceptions (the end of A Simple Plan does come to mind) it is the most gutless, cajoneless, pussy-whipped, dick sucking, catering-to-the-lowest-common-denominator industry in America today. If computer makers were as afraid to take chances as Hollywood is, we'd all be using punch cards to this day. Shit, we'd all be using abaci (sp).

She's All That is a perfect example of a Hollywood movie that could have done something right and instead ended up doing everything wrong. It takes the interesting girl and makes her exactly like everyone else. Can't Hardly Wait had a great line in it when a bunch of football players are sitting around and one of them says, "Guys like us, we're a dime a dozen." Well, so are hot girls in slinky dresses. Who cares? What they SHOULD have done was make the guy turn into a nerd after hanging out with the girl. Give him a pair of glasses and get him into art, then have both of them say "screw the prom." THAT would have been interesting and sweet. Instead all we get is pure drivel.

And that's the problem with Hollywood. It never, ever takes a chance on anything. In 99% of the movies that come out, you know exactly what you're going to get before the lights ever go down.
