...But it really bugs me that DePalma had to have that stupid ending where Carrie's hand "unexpectedly" pops up out of the grave (or whatever it was -- it's been a while since I've seen it). That pretty much ruined the movie for me.
And yeah, you're right about "Misery" skipping parts of the book, but even so I think it managed to convey the mood of the novel very well. Using your exact words, though, you're right; the novel and the movie are not scene-for-scene exactly alike.
"Stand By Me" was a good flick. Is it just me, or do King's novels/short stories that AREN'T of the supernatural sort make much better movies overall? "Stand By Me", Shawshank Redemption", "Misery"; as opposed to crap like "Pet Sematary", "Children of the Corn", "The Mangler"...
