There was one scene in the lawnmower man that was from the short story: he telepathically sends the lawnmower to murder the abusive father living next door. In the short story it wasn't telepathy, but there was a death-by- lawnmower.

I actually couldn't get through the book Dreamcatcher. The first ~150 pages are solid, but then it just really begins to suck (right after the part where Jonesy faces off with the alien). The movie tried hard...but it was a fucked up story that should have never been adapted.

And I think you and I share the same opinion of Maximum Overdrive. Best/worst "guilty pleasure" movie. Astonishingly bad on every level, and yet oddly re- watchable.
