I'll disagree. For drama they have nominated movies that are primarily of another genre:
-Fantasy: "Lord of the Rings" trilogy
-Action: "Gladiator", "The French Connection"
-Comedy: "Around the World in 80 Days", "Wonder Boys", and the dramedies "Forrest Gump" and "American Beauty"
-Crime: "Pulp Fiction", "In the Heat of the Night"
-Sci-Fi: "Star Wars", "E.T."
-War: "Platoon", "Saving Private Ryan", "The Guns of Navarone", "Bridge on the River Kwaii", "Spartacus"
-Sports: "Rocky"
-Horror: "The Exorcist" (which won), "Jaws"
-Romance: "Love Story"
-Thriller: "Silence of the Lambs", "Fatal Attraction", "Airport"
Only oddities I recall in the Comedy/Musical category:
-"The Mask of Zorro" (action/adventure with a comedic spirit)
-"Hope and Glory" (too serious to be a comedy, if you ask me)
