The only reason I can think of for the Icarus Cap'n to leave the beacon on was to lure the next Icarus into his God ordained deathtrap. Not why he thought it was necessary to destroy the mainframe though. I doubt he would have been able to maintain to geosynchronous orbit around Mercury with out it. Also, how did that Garden get it's light? And where the fuck did the superstrength sunbeam that sliced through the Icarus two's garden come from? How did it not slice the ship in half?

And come on, who would go into a derelict spaceship with out a FUCKING SPACESUIT on. Who knows what deathly chemicals/gas could be floating around. Plus if that ship had a pressurized environment a good fart might have upset some seal with an explosive decompression. You just gotta have your own oxygen.

Good analysis tho Mr Mucus. I got it with the typos just fine.
