There are several things John Boorman, Brosnan and the writers should have thought of...

1) People see Brosnan they think Bond, he's typecast to hell and back again, I laugh whenever Brosnan says "I'm only doing one more so I'm not badly typecast" 'cause that has already happened... So people go to this movie they think Bond, They're there to see Violence, Sex, and CGI. Instead they get a political thriller that requires ::gasp:: Thinking! To top it off they see their clean, suave, kid friendly Brosnan, smoking, swearing like no tomorrow, banging every women in sight, and screwing people and the goverment. That would be like making Mary Poppins into a chain smoking drunk.

2) Brosnan is a good actor, but he keeps working with these veteran directors who use to make good stuff 20 years ago but aren't really in touch with today's viewers.

3) The writers wanted a happy hollywood ending (like hell) instead of the real good creative ending where every one dies and Brosnan rots in prison.

4) Lastly they thought they could survive by word of mouth.
