I personally think that the film was good... and I'm a guy... not gay either! It's obvious that there is a huge split between what people think of this movie: you either support it, or really don't and can't get past many of the things. One being that Tom is "gay". Even if the character Tom Ripley in the movie was, who cares? The whole point of the movie deals with Tom Ripley trying to correct his mistakes and regret. The other reason being that people just did not get the plot. Sure, sure, sure. Let's all pretend that it "sucked". I'm 15, and I got it in the first taking. I guess as an aspiring writer, I'm more into these "artsy" films... and so are the majority of critics. I find it funny when people attack this movie for just crap -- i.e.: Gwyneth did a bad job (which she didn't, I just think some of the gal's here are jealous), Tom was gay, I couldn't bare it... damn, it's so hard for me to accept, etc., etc.. Get a life people. If you didn't like the film, buzz off. No-one's holding a gun to your head. You could have walked out of the theater.
SO, HERE'S MY LAST ANALYSIS:
Watch the film, unscathed by all this shit. No film
deserves to be trashed by message boards. It's easy to
criticize, but the assholes on message boards who pretend
to know what they're talking -- well, in the larger scheme
of things... THEIR OPINION DOES NOT MATTER!! Anthony
Minghella, who wrote and directed TMR, is a hell of a lot
richer and more important than your lives! Get a job.
Lol. I said it. Loud and clear.
