Keep it straight, buddy.
And I'll say again: It's not his subject matter I dislike, I don't give a shit about his sexual preference and/or alleged "machoness" (I really never found him macho, myself, so whatever), it's the "unaffected" style of his writing. It's dull. It doesn't move me. It doesn't set my imagination sprinting like so many other writers do.
You say unaffected, I say deliberate, unromantic. I just don't see the so-called brilliance - I see plodding, plodding, plodding and more plodding.
